... of rail in 1869 and cars in 1918 on highway 30 to now this mega highway I - 80.
Fort Kearny (notice the spelling has changed) Historical Park and State Park is about 4 miles south of town on the south of the Platt River.
The Fort was the only defence for the wagon trains going west in the early days so again all the different Trails converged here which enabled repairs and supplies.
Left Denver in the morning and headed to Cheyenne WY and saw the state capitol. Quite a bit fancier than the NV capitol. From there headed to Nebraska using state highways. Went to Scottsbluff and Chimney rock. These were markers for western settlers following the Oregon, Mormon, California trails as well as the Pony Express. At Scottsbluff the wagon ...
Kearney, Nebraska, United States cmbuchholz... with period dress and pioneer demonstrations. (At least that's what Tish told Tom.) So we made the trek south of I-80, our concerns growing as we passed a series of cheesy signs for "Harold Warp's Pioneer Village." (Harold Warp made big money as the inventor of Flex-o-glass, for those of you trivia buffs in the crowd.)
Well...our fears were realized ...
The drive to Kearney, NB today was very long. This was the first time in three trips West that I have encountered extended traffic stops on the interstate. My luck finally ran out. We stopped at Cabela's. This is my second trip to this store. It is fabulous. I bought some new assault rifles to defend myself when I get to California. Check out my photo with the bear. It is in the entrance of Cabela's store.
We traveled north through Oklahoma and Kansas (via I 35;I 135; US 81) for 12 hours. Finally, after traveling for 12 hours, we found a place to stop!!! It was nice having our RV to just park. It was 48 degrees, Tuesday Morning, in Grand Island, NE!!!
Grand Island, Nebraska, United States kbwebster1... and we sat outside playing games and reading. Went to bed early, trying to get back to our time zone. I forgot that my company apparently got bought this past week. I really am enjoying the trip. By the way I received less than one call a day until Monday. That day the phone was ringing off the hook. The good news, for all of you who were inquiring, is as of today's market close I can pay for the RV trip! Mike
Grand Island, Nebraska, United States bearsrule009... to Lee he'd have his bins out, a bird book in one hand and a plant or flower book in the other hand identifying all the different grasses and flowers about. It was so beautiful and peaceful, a far cry from where we'd been the night before. We had a look around the visitor centre and the two ladies behind the council couldn't believe we'd come from the UK, once they'd realised we weren't Australian!, they were so chuffed we'd decided to pay them a visit. They gave us ...
Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States lisartw... some time with my Mom. It had been years since we had seen each other, and Dale had never met my family. The day past too quick, and I wished we had planned more time to stay. However at this point it was too late to make any changes, and besides our adventure was just beginning.. Tomorrow we would be departing for Kansas City....
Outside of Fullerton, Nebraska, United States travelbuddy420... we actually had to pull off the road for. Fortunately, Hope came out of it okay. We arrived at my Mom's farm around 11:00 pm, after wandering dirt back roads for about 40 minuets. After some visiting and a bite to eat our bodies gave in and we were forced to retire for the night.

Sometime after 10, Reanna showed up. I hadn't seen her since Holloween, it was awesome to see the girl! We then headed to meet Tiff at the Q, where they were having a drag queen show. We chatted and watched the drag show, and got some photos too. Had a good time. Tiff went home a bit early, and Reanna's brother Allan came down for a bit so I got to see him too. It was just too much fun. Reanna and I hung out then afterwards for awhile and eventually went home.
