Wow what a big country!

... etc but all managed to get back to the hotel under their own steam.
I started to realise today how big this country is - we spent most of the afternoon and some of the evening on one road which was about 250 miles long and dead straight for most of the route. The occasional town and village but mostly nothing but farmland growing sweetcorn.

We finally found the byway, which was an extremely desolate stretch of road. We drove through miles of gently sloping hills. The road stretched on and on, and our gas levels became lower and lower, with no gas stations in sight (or any signs of life, for that matter).

We pressed on, and with bikes still wet and low on gas, we rolled in to Pierre, South Dakota about 6:30 pm.
