    At the end of a long day when I start looking for a place to stop for the night there is a 'magic formula' that I look for; the trifecta of goods and services in close proximity to one another.     ... The North Platte River was critical to the pioneers as they went West. The Mormons traveled west on the north side of the river and wound up in Utah. Others traveled on the south side and wound up in California. There were many places we might have stopped but we chose the two rock formations that were landmarks for the Pioneers.
