De eerste hele dag in Santa Cruz hebben we dus niet in Santa Cruz doorgebracht...

Bij de receptie 's morgens een eenvoudig ontbijtje opgehaald en aan de picknicktafel bij het zwembad opgegeten.

On his death, Hearst gave it all away to the state to be a national park. Next stop for us is to see a Rookery of elephant seals which have taken over a beach 6 miles from the castle, they are massive and lounge around in large groups, barking and sleeping at each other, whilst ...

... We went for a late lunch on the Old Fisherman's Pier at a restaurant called Café Fina. We sat at American Football coach John Madden's table and were warned by numerous signs that we'd have to move if he turned up. Luckily (for him!!) he didn't and we enjoyed a good hearty lunch after all that sea air.

We wandered along the pier for a while before heading back to Carmel Valley Ranch some pool time. We were joined around the ...
