... around and going back because there was flooding and washed out roads behind us as well.

The next report we got from the same fellow was that there was a van who had gotten stuck in the mudslide under the overpass and there was another little white car that was hood-down in the raging river of mud in the median. I asked him what the heavy equipment was doing and he said they were trying to move some mud and assess the damage. And so we sat. ...

    ... after an exhausting day.

Today we went to a Swap Meet (LA equivalent of a car boot sale) which luckily also had a VW exhibit on so Dan was happy! We wondered round for a while, grabbing a beer half way round and Dan bought some shorts. Dan's cousin then drove us to Laguna Beach (via Newport Beach of The OC fame), where we walked on the beach and explored some rock pools. I paddled in the Pacific (and have photos to prove it).

... more in line with the movie. This will not come as good news for The Mothership, as from my recollection she always has to be Gloria the Hippo – and for some reason does not love this....

Elwood went to sleep beautiful and was pretty much charm brought to life. Except for his final words to us tonight when I was talking about what we are doing tomorrow. He just said, ‘I don’t want to go anywhere hot’. Oh ...
