And so concludes our week in Tucumcari; we said an emotional farewell to auntie Mon, knowing full well that this might be the last time we see her. We will miss all our Tucumcari friends and thank them all for making us feel more than welcome.

The morning air was warm and still as we made our way past the usual collection of disorientated beetles, all led on their backs and flailing their legs in the air. Either these beetles are incredibly useless or beetle tipping is the chosen sport of New Mexico!

... br> After about an hour of the worlds worst crossword completion Billy informed us that dinner was served. Billy and Loretta had been preparing dinner all afternoon and had done an amazing job of preparing homemade hamburgers, barbeque wieners, salad, pork rids, pork chops and homemade beans and potato salad for about fifteen people.

Bellies full we returned to the motel room to watch a program about a religious nut job before closing our eyes for pleasant dreams.

Trudging to Taos

High on my bucket was (and I say was) Taos. Poor Tom drove about nine hours, some of them in a raging rain storm. Taos was a bust. We immediately headed for Santa Fe.
The ride, however to Taos was nothing short of spectacular. The landscapes were like paintings. We traveled through sage brush fields and majestic mountains. We miss so much of this beautiful country when we travel by plane.
