After leaving Bowie we continued north on 287 to I-40 seeing bits and pieces of Route 66.
We ran into very severe weather just inside New Mexico. The cross wind was so bad that I had to reduce our speed down to 40mph. It was literally raining sideways pushing rain in through the side windows of the camper. I've never driven in such a strong cross wind and care not to ever again.

Trudging to Taos

High on my bucket was (and I say was) Taos. Poor Tom drove about nine hours, some of them in a raging rain storm. Taos was a bust. We immediately headed for Santa Fe.
The ride, however to Taos was nothing short of spectacular. The landscapes were like paintings. We traveled through sage brush fields and majestic mountains. We miss so much of this beautiful country when we travel by plane.
