... We had about a 4 hr drive ahead of us to Elk Rock State Park, just outside of Des Moines, Iowa. Once we got to the park, we had a few hiccups; first, the address on the website took us down this dirt road that ended in the lake, and no campsite...finally we found out the way to the right campsite, only to find that our reservations didn't go through online...at one point we thought we were out of luck, but then found one spot ...

Driving day number 2! Today we logged 447 miles. Piece of cake. It was mostly an uneventful ride. Here are a few thoughts from today: Illinois- mostly flat rolling fields of corn.....for miles and miles.....The skyline dotted with wind turbines, manicured highways and the prettiest rest stops I've ever seen. We stayed at Whitebreast campsite which is on the southern tip of the lake. We reserved spot#76 which was the end of the road in this campground. Completely shaded and away from most others. Sunny and 72 was our Friday. Perfect weather. Starving once we arrived so we whipped up a couple of sandwiches and chips n dip. Cracked Peace Tree's growler of Soundcheck ...

    ... Pass out! Long Day!

    Day 2 in Pella,

Step One. Spend an obscene amount of money at Walmart getting all the necessities that we could not bring from home. My God! The little things like silverware, cups, sheets, etc... Really add up.

Step Two. Fix many things that I did not know needing fixing. Pretty much took all day, but it is to be expected.

Step Three.. Take in the local Flavor of Iowa. So what do Iowans ...

... home of Sir Isaac Newton, who invented the apple. He's known for dropping it, which is really unfair, because I drop things all the time, and nobody knows me. Anyway, at the age of 4 and a half, he left home and travelled on Am-Wagon—a predecessor to Amtrak—to Blarney castle, kissed the Blarney Stone, ...
