      Tortas in Our Tummies

      • Stopped off at Tacos Y Mariscos El Compa in Caldwell Idaho at 6:30 PM.
      • We both got chicken tortas for $5.50 each.
      • It was delicious, authentic Mexican food.
      • We got gas before leaving Caldwell.
      • Since it was a 129 mile drive from Wendell to Caldwell, gas was $24.04.
      • Back on the road by 8:00 PM and headed to Oregon to send the night.

Night 13: Farewell to the Snake From Arco, ID, to Farewell Bend, OR Today we drove 289.2 miles across the Snake River Plain, using the old Goodale Cutoff of the Oregon Trail on the high shelf between Cary and Mountain Home, ID. (The van passed 175,000 miles today.) Weather was hot all day topping off at 100 near Boise. Most of the day was dry, sunny, and in the upper 90's. It was windy in the early afternoon and again after sunset. I had to tie anchor ropes to the tent ...

Left Oak Harbor this morning at 7:00 AM after many tears and countless hugs and promises to keep in touch better. The salmon were packed. The gifts were stashed. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care. Gear adrift in the camper was stowed. The camper was hooked up to the F-150 and the checklist was all checked off in proper military fashion. Just about the entire family showed up to wish us bon voyage. Those that didn't ...
