    Well we made it off with no major incidents today. We put 438 miles on the vehicles. Only a couple of backups or is it tailbacks for you foreigners. One seemed a little nasty with a wreck that surely ruined someones holiday. Luckily we had a 25 hour day since we are heading west. I think tomorrow will be harder with more miles. ...

    Made it as far as Warrenton, Missouri on day 2. As you can see by the picture, Braddock has become a lapdog. Nice weather and mostly decent roads so far. Tried a short cut in Western Kentucky, though, where the two-lane highway had bumps and dips and a very narrow bridge over the Mississippi River. Probably won't do that one again. Nebraska ...

    ... a frozen yogurt. Then on to our hotel, a Quality Inn in Foristell, MO. It's an okay place, no place nearby to eat, though. So we backtracked down the road to Wentzville and ate at Bandana's BBQ. The food was very good, and the price was pretty good, too.

    Tomorrow we are headed to Omaha, with a stop in Kansas City at the World War I museum there. More tomorrow....

    Left Springfield this morning and took the original 1926-1930 Route 66 which was based on Illinois Route 4. This branch of Route 66 has been returned to the original Illinois Route 4 designation. The road zig-zagged it's way through Chatham, Auburn and Thayer, one of the turns having a brick road. I stopped of in Virden which has a lovely town square where I saw the monument to the coal miners involved in a bloody dispute with the mine ...
