... its progressive urban culture. However, out of the proverbial gas, we turned in for the night--ready for another colossal road day on Saturday--this time deep into the (northern) heart of Texas. The chirping of crickets, long a symbol of summer stasis, has taken on a more Hitchcockian vibe here in Tulsa...may we awaken from our sleep unharmed by this biblical pestilence. And may the breakfast bar be plentiful.
... a bit like a ghost town but according to Melba it is on the rise. Can she talk! We had the past, the present and the future all wrapped up in a 30 second monologue, no time to breathe. It's hilarious , then this young girl turns up and goes behind the counter to take over her shift from Melba and within 60 seconds we have her life story as well! Yep, that's Melba's niece! We finally get out of the cafe after the boys have enjoyed a very cold beer and we are now armed ...
... version. It was so badly maintained, to the point of being no existent in parts with huge potholes and cracks in the road.
After this brief bumpy road, we were back onto a regular road, stopping at Afton to grab a drink. While there, we spotted the faded Buffalo Ranch Trading Post - it didn't appear to be open but there was Buffalo in the paddock behind it and they were being fed when we got there.
... of us had a good signal. Not only that but we got back in the car we had the low fuel warning. It was then more important to find fuel! Fortunately that only took a few minutes. We managed to find a hotel which looked deserted but turned out to be FULLY booked. The nice girl on reception helped us with a map and some hotel addresses.
