After departing Alpena with following John & Rita we followed highway 23 through Cheboygan to the bridge. Connie got a great picture of the magnificent bridge as we crossed it onto the Upper Peninsula (UP), beginning our Yooper experience. Both Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are really only one body of water, sharing the same water level elevation.
Another remote park, small but very nice with spectacular waterfront sites on Lake Michigan so we are looking straight out over the water, Can’t get in our heads that we are on a
lake. “Can’t see the other side, nothing but water”.
We went into Mackinaw City on Lake Huron to check it out and to get a schedule for the Mackinac Islands ferry. We had ok pizza at Nonna’s Pizza Restaurant. Very neat, clean ...
Where tourists want to be trapped! No cars, but watch out for those bicycles and horse carriages. It's a short ride out from St. Ignace to the island via jet-boat sporting a very cool rooster-tail. The island is wonderful, with beautifully restored 19th century homes that I couldn't stop taking pictures of. And, the Grand Hotel is truly grand. Very elegant with grounds ...
