This is the cleanest and biggest room we have stayed in on our entire trip across the country.

After 450 miles south, we head east skirting he big city areas and rolling thru the countryside. This post is in between campsites to alert you to a (planned) direction change.

Stopping for lunch at a large rest area east of Bloomington, Illinois, we admire the vast fields and ominous clouds of an impending weather front moving in from the southeast.

So today we left Normal around 11:00 with a six-hour drive ahead of us to Nashville. The drive was pretty uneventful until... About a half hour from Nashville rain began. Very gently at first and then it became torrential. It reminded me of the monsoon rains we get in Cambodia. We had reservations at a Rodeway Inn and Siri gave ...

We then realised this would be the last glimpse of the Missip that we'd been following for over a week. Now it's onto huge lakes as we go towards Chicago .

Today we caught up with an old friend I'd volunteered with in Melbourne 4 years ago. Gee it was neat to see her again.
We chatted a couple of hrs or so, then off towards the Windy City ...

... surprise. The Dana-Thomas House is a beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright designed house known for having some of his most intact house interiors anywhere. It’s a state historic site now and open most days for tours. Before continuing on to the Saint Louis area I finished my day in one of the Midwest’s more pleasant small cities with a Hefeweizen shandy at Obed and Isaac’s Brew Pub. It really hit the spot after walking all around town on a warm sunny ...

... we stopped at Macca's for coffee and WiFi, to find a hotel for the night. Our limit is roughly $70, $60 is better as that's an even 20 each. We could go cheaper but no-one really wants to after Lincoln.

We find a La Quinta at an outer suburb of St Louis and book online, then head out there. I have mailed work asking for a copy of my license and am hopeful that tomorrow we can get me on as a driver.
