The trucks loaded and we're on the road! First stop- Burkburnett, TX (aside from Diary Queen and numerous snack and potty breaks). Finally made it around 10 pm due to traffic in Dallas. The temp already dropped to 40 degrees! Ate at Dairy Queen and to top it off the front desk waived our pet ...

Natürlich sind Starbucks und McDonalds (und etlich andere Cafés und Restaurants) als Anbieter dabei... aber bsp. hier in Texas hat man sogar an jedem Rastplatz entlang ...
Checking Out the Old Place
... and the fire, things were pretty sad looking. The longhorns and buffalo were still able to find some grass to feed on, but not much.
When we got back to Lawton, we drove by the first house we bought. The neighborhood was in better shape than we had expected, but was still run down a bit. What was kinda sad was to see the poor shape of the front yard after Shirley had hand watered in the new lawn the first summer we were in the house. ...

The famed Buffalo Soldiers constructed a good portion of the Fort. Today 46 of the original buildings are still in use and in excellent condition (i.e., the museum, Post Chapel, and housing for active duty officers and their families). The U.S. Field Artillery Center and School was established in 1911.
Since we were here for just 3 days that's about it. Hope you enjoy the photos.

She's In the Army Now
... After a short nap time after lunch, we made our way to the La Ton Nail Salon where we got manis and pedis - some well deserved pampering for our soldier! CK even got a pedi with us! Back to the hotel for some swimming, then to Olive Garden for dinner. We had to have her back in her battery at 2100, and we got to see how they lined up in their batteries and answered their Drill Sergeants. Back home and to bed.
