    ... 100 degree sun and feels ice cold under your feet. When you get into the back country, among the dunes and away from shrubs, it genuinely feels like a hike across the moon.

    This was my first time coming to white sands with Baxter, and he absolutely loved it. Dogs are meant to be on leash at all times, but Baxter is so well behaved that we gave him a little more freedom, mostly to play fetch with his favorite lacross ball.

    The ride was short from Tucson to Las Cruces (about 4 hours) but the weather sucked. It was cold, rainy and dreary. At times it was raining so hard it was hard for me to drive.
