... street is a large Al's Oasis bar. It looked like a little western strip town but actually an air condition mall. Restaurant and nice grocery store. South Dakota is long. Luckily the speed limit is 75 here and Lauren was able to fuse with the Civic. Machine and woman have become one and they are destroying the road. We will be in the Badlands and at Mt Rushmore in no time. We just crossed the Missouri river. I found it more impressive than the Mississippi ...

... it was leading me on the wrong route, I was at least 45 minutes off my route (so over 1.5 hours total!!). I could have actually kept on in that direction (it was actually an alternate route to get to my destination) but I couldn't check out Mount Rushmore if I went that way. I just couldn't be that close to such a landmark and not check it out so I had to turn around! 12.5 hours now 14.5!

Today I zigzagged through the south east corner of South Dakota on my way to Chamberlain. On the surface it looks green but when you see the fields up close you see how dry the ground is and how small the plants are. Fortunately there were a few rain showers in the area but it wasn't enough to do much. I hope and pray they get more rain soon.
