    ... through Salton City. I pass the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, named after the former entertainer, one-time Palm Springs Mayor, and U.S. Congressman from California.

    The refuge was established in 1930 as a sanctuary and breeding ground for birds and wild animals, then renamed after Bono, who played an active role in trying to save the Salton Sea. I got you, Babe.

    ... camper around. We were fortunate to be close to a turn around and by then they had shut the interstate down and were directing people off onto the frontage road. Right before we were about to get past the fire via the frontage road, they ended up having to shut it down as well so we had to turn around again.
