So after departing sunny Ringgold, we began the first proper road-leg of our tour. This one began by retracing our steps back to Atlanta, before setting off North East towards the mountains. First stop was a little place called Winder, to meet up with some of Leah's friends - Josh & Ellie, and Paul & Rebecca. Josh is a tennis coach and had a lesson til late on so the rest of us went for ...

... some hiking, and lots of sleep! I drove here in a rainstorm which was the perfect entry. Again, this California girl can't get enough water from the sky. I've seen some rather large cascading falls, Minnehaha Falls I believe, but have most enjoyed hanging on the deck of the boathouse talking to ducks, swimming, and exploring the homes and boat houses of Murray Cove. Music gave me something constant to keep me ...

... a mile away I found an amazing camp site. It was a clear area on top of a ridge with a view into a valley to the west where I could see the sunset. I couldn't pass it up, and I spent a relaxing evening eating dinner and enjoying the view before bed.

I woke up to rain and a fairly unpleasant but not awful day. I had slept dry, but trying to pack everything up left a lot of my stuff damp, and the constant rain while hiking just made it worse. Hiking in the rain was fine, ...

... the Blue Ridge railway line. Our choice was the #1 B&B on most travel sites: Aska Lodge. The owners, Ric and Janet deserve the accolades as Aska Lodge lives up to it's reputation. Terrycloth robes, bamboo linen, specialist breakfasts and incredible hosts made it an unforgettable experience.

And so we headed back, filled with fresh mountain air, southern hospitality and life long friends from as far as Germany. All in a week. ...
