... aware of my own optimism.
Icecave picked me up from town on the Sunday evening. He had shaved his beard and I didn't even recognize him until he waved over at me. It was great to see him again. We packed a few days worth of food then headed out to the hotsprings which looked as if they had been over-run by hippies at some stage. There were dream-catchers, candles and incense comes all over the place. I loved it. The springs ran into a big river which carved through a steep ...

... way for a little under a mile. The walls were so close together that we could barely get through at times. At one point the canyon floor was only inches wide and the walls themselves were barely two feet from each other! And if we both stood still and did not make a sound, we could feel the silence around us. The silence was deafening. Yesterday's drive was interesting following the Colorado river up through a canyon for 100 miles before hitting the interstate I-70 to New Castle. We went through Cisco, a ghost town that died with the steam train. 18-inch pizza at New Castle and bedding down with Mormons at Econolodge. Sunday was a driving day. We crossed the Rockies over independence Pass with ...

On Digger's last day we drove up through the high country north of Jefferson up over Georgia Pass (11,585ft on the Continental Divide) in his 'Lincoln Navigator' hire car - he had to change from his BMW 740 after the sunroof exploded!!!!. Test fired a few weapons......
Very pristine environment above the tree line. Not a good place to be in the middle of winter.....
Beautiful views and the Aspen trees just beginning to change colour as winter approaches....

... Jack suggested that we find a cabin for the next few nights. Luckily, we stopped at the forest service office where we met a local resident who suggested we try Beaver Lake Estates where they have three guest cabins for rent at the bargain basement price of $35 per night!

Off we went to the Estates! And when we arrived, there was indeed a cabin waiting for us that overlooked Beaver Lake. And it was rustic and fine, so we stayed ...
