    ... the 7th...hugs for our BC friends and then off with a loaded car Northbound into Mississippi which is so lush with a million shades of green. Trees are gigantic forming canopies over the roads...So pretty and springlike.

    I've given up hope for Kansas to become flat like everyone told me. I don't know what to expect from Missouri. I'm at my halfway point through Kansas though. I found a city park where they offer free overnight camping. There is also a city pool up the hill. Since there are no showers in the park, I used the pool's showers.     Onwards and eastwards my next stop was Abilene, a small historic town with a number of claims to fame. Abilene was the terminus of the Chisholm Trail on which cattle were driven north from Texas to the railroad in Abilene in the late 1860s and early 1870s to be shipped to Chicago. An estimated 5 million head of cattle reached Abilene over several years, and the large number of cowboys at the end of the trail made Abilene one of the wildest towns in the West for a few years.
