... finally at 8:00-ish. Oh well! Mark took first shift driving, always staying about 8 miles above the speed limit to make good time without getting a ticket. Across Missouri via I-70, we settled in for the long drive. Today we would try to make it to Colorado Springs, so about 12 hours of driving. Mac and Josie are excellent car trip kids. They slept, played on phones and I-Pads and annoyed each other, but all in good fun.

... the surrounding area but realized going up Pikes Peak would not be good for Jim's altitude problems, the chapel at the Air Force. Academy was closed because of a football game on campus and the heat steered us away from exploring the Garden of the Gods. So on this hot day, we headed to the pool instead of exploring. ... the resort had to close due to thunder and lightning, since we all had pretty decent sunburns the next day. Ouch! That's the third time in my life that I've been truly sunburned and the first time where it's lasted longer than a day and needed some sort of cream for it. The high altitudes can really get you!

... a flight refueling plane [go visit Wikipedia: Boeing KC-97 Stratotanker]. This plane was sectioned and we climbed the stairs to our deck, were seated in the wing section at our booth and served by our uniformed 'captain of the evening'.
