      ... architecture, one of which is a hotel in downtown that was fully refurbished about 3 years ago. What a beautiful building!!

      Tomorrow is one of their big community events, the North Iowa Band Festival parade through downtown. Sheryl and I are hoping to be up early enough to get curbside seats.

      Who would imagine that two side-by-side Iowa towns would enjoy fame because of two musicians? Mason City because Meredith Willson was born there, and Clear Lake because Buddy Holly died there.











      We began our day by heading to Clear Lake to see the Surf Ballroom, where Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper had their last show. The mid-century design ...

      ... the hotel dining room, we wandered around town and stopped for a drink at the Candy Bar Nite Club, a little divey bar in the location of the original Pleazol pool hall. A great way to end a travel day. We went back to our wonderful room and crashed, exhausted from seeing so much corn and soybeans.

      Next up... the Buddy Holly and Meredith Willson Industrial Complexes, or what makes Northern Iowa famous.

      ... at R Campground alongside the river, nice spot. Went for dinner at Chinese buffet place but horrible not like the one in Huston. On way home sent for a little walk along side river. All nicely set up with walk/bike tracks and canoe race thingy on river.
