Aug 25-28 JNM (Sam in NY with Tony camping) Enjoyed our 3 night stay at Kate and Nik's: 5131 Penn Ave. Reminded us of the apt building in Alex. We did the Duck Tour, saw a lot of sights, Squirrel Hill walk around, bought teas, watched RedBox movies, and Highland Park. Not impressed with the slum feeling. Took 4 hours without traffic. Felt rested, enjoyed Maddie with us, and good to be ...

From Carlisle yesterday we came through towns called Bedford, and Somerset, there was even one named Scotland. One could easily be mistaken for travelling through England!
The traffic even at 3pm was diabolical, so it was bumper to bumper as we made our way slowly to the hotel in West Pittsburgh. Paul was exhausted. He hates not knowing where he's meant to be going. One minute we're in one lane and suddenly you find oops you're supposed to go one another ...

Opting for the back roads, I stayed on Route 30 heading across ...

... is reached by a series of 28 stairs which are modelled after the Scala Sancta in Rome. To reach the altar you must ascend the stairs on your knees and say a different prayer on each step. This is one of only four churches in the world with holy stairs. Now back to the food, we had home-made Italian meats (Parma Sausage), hummus (Labad's), a pepperoni roll (Sunseri's), biscotti (Enrico Biscotti), mele (Colangelo's) and savoury pierogis (S&D Polish Deli). All of the food was ...

... had a very active weekend of a high ropes course and White water rafting. They were both so much fun! Mandy and Kevin are both afraid of heights, so they were very entertaining to watch through the high ropes course. After white water rafting we decided to head to the Church Brew Works for dinner, an old church converted to a brewery and restaurant. It was sunday so obviously we had to go to church... and drink beer.
