Day 2: 4 states, 27 degrees, many white knuckles

Our day on the road started at 6:45, with 769 Kms under our belt already, in a very fresh -24 degrees Celsius. Our day entailed four states: Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa including 100 Kms of the worst highway surface conditions either of us have ever endured (yes, even worse than Port Elgin Christmas of 1984 or Grand Forks, ND conference champs of 2006) and there was not even any 'active' weather. Black ice, hard packed snow and crazy drivers made the experience frightful, but ...

Drove to Story City, Iowa today. The weather was not good today, in fact we drove through pour down rain for about 1 1/2 hrs as we passed through Kansas City and northward. The campground was wet from all the rain and not as pretty as it was the last time we stayed here 4 years ago. Smokey hasn't been sleeping well and has been crying during the night. I guess it is too much going on for him. Needless to say, we haven't been sleeping too ...

Woke up to fog so no amazing sunrise. We packed and started to drive Ken let me drive first. It was extremely thick fog I was lucky to see 100 feet ahead of me and today was a big drive 8 hours. We did stop at the Minutemen museum. They were the nuclear missiles aimed at Russia during the Cold War and based ...

... the Rocky Mountains. Will post updates as we go!

Final update for today: we indulged in a little KFC tonight and got a sweet spot in between a pond and a cornfield. (The cornfield seems mandatory around here. The water was a bonus). Anthony got a couple of leads on a roommate today, but we're not getting our hopes up too much. Crashing soon and looking forward to crossing the halfway point tomorrow.
    Good ...

Bob and I are preparing for our two month adventure in Spain. We are attempting to hike 10k every morning and have now added another 10k in the afternoon. Along with the hikes, we have added our backpacks. The question now we are asking each other often, "Why are we doing this?" It seems silly to work this hard in retirement. The Camino is referred to as 'The road of Reflection', so maybe we will figure this ...
