Sunday we were blessed to be able to attend Mass at St. Mary's here in Alexandria. The Mass was wonderful, the singing was unbelievable and I took a few pictures in the church before we left. Nice park but after the other national parks we've visited so far this one was just ok, interesting rock formations and the grasslands were very pretty. Great free primitive camping area where the local rangers came in and did a talk about hunting and gathering in the area, had a go at throwing an Atlatl (primitive spear) and we both sucked at it. While we were at breakfast the shop called to let us know that the motorhome would be ready mid-afternoon. This was unexpected but welcome news! We packed up and checked out of the hotel by the 11 deadline. Having a few hours to kill we decided to visit Falls Park to see the famous

... placed and their size and materials. It is a very authentic experience. We walked the land that Laura walked and touched the trees that Pa had planted (thousands he planted, only a half dozen remain.) The slough was still there, just not as big. It was walking in deja vu. Everything we'd read was in fact real.
... are not as enthusiastic about it all as we were in Kansas and Missouri. One more heavy duty Laura day. And then the long drive home. We have been immersed in the simple life that Laura had as she grew up. Entranced as well by this heartland of America. It is a fantastic place still.
