        Omaha zoo

A travel blog entry by jason934 on Sep 30, 2015

The goal of visiting Omaha was going to the supposed best zoo in the world. We arrived there at 10:30am and left at 4:15pm, shortly before they closed at 5pm. It's great having the GPS to navigate us around, and we had no issues getting there or back to the hotel. Firstly I think the zoo could be in the running for the best in the world, once their extensive construction is complete. There was a lot of construction, which really distracted from the experience. Also the zoo ...

... the car and road. First thing we did upon getting the car was drive straight to Walmart to pick up a GPS unit. Really cheap at $99 and a good model. At Walmart we picked up a few other things - a Minion shirt Sam liked, some fresh strawberries and a few goodies for the road. We checked into the hotel, had a little sleep then dined in at Olive Garden. Sam got her favourite chicken marsala and I had a three pasta dish - very tasty. ...

While in Iowa, why not visit the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library we said to ourselves and we're glad we did. This is my fifth presidential library and I always enjoy learning about these men. President Hoover lead a pretty impressive life before he entered politics. This library complex includes his ancestral home...a 2 room simple home for 5 people...a Quaker meetinghouse, a one room schoolhouse and his burial site. The library itself is pretty large and includes ...

... of the best sites of the trip so far. It was a series of 1.25% larger than life bronze sculptures of a pioneer wagon train. It was so realistic Peg had to go up and feel the harness on the horses to make sure it was bronze not leather. The detail and variety of figures from oxen to mules to the wagons and the people was just astounding. Seeing these figures juxtaposed against the modern city buildings was surrealistic. .

Day 11 - American Bacon and Amazing Zoo's

... said this, that did not stop me eating loads of it! My favourite part of the breakfast was definitely the bacon, peanut butter and jam on toast I had ;-) We then both had a bath, watched some bad American daytime TV (the view scares me) and we made our way to the zoo. The hotel also agreed to look after our luggage for us during the day. The receptionist at the hotel very kindly drove us to the zoo; there was a shuttle service which turned out to be like a ...
