    ... to pick up our refugee - Gaile Harrell and we shopped till we couldn't get any more into the shopping carts (3 of them). Look out Jodi, the stuff is on the way to your house. LOL.     ... businesses appeared closed or if open they certainly did not look inviting. Homes that had obviously had a fire some time in the past were left standing-- it seemed like people just walked away from their homes but they stood there in whatever state or experienced vandalism after they walked away. It seemed to us that the impact of the downsizing of the auto industry was pretty evident still in Flint.

    Snow was threatening in the U.P. so we decided to high-tail it back to the Lower Peninsula to avoid it. We had to wait at the Mackinaw Bridge for a wind advisory to be all clear and then bee-lined it for Burt Lake State Forest Campground. There is also a Burt Lake State Park but it is wide open with spaces on top of one another and is only open during the good weather months.     ... budgies there. From there we went to a farm where they make apple cider but unfortunately we couldn't see it being processed as all the apples this season were ruined because of adverse weather conditions. We did see a video and got to taste the cider. It was very sweet and tasted like Jonathan apples. They also had hot doughnuts which were yummy. They were covered with ...
