... hiking trails. We hiked and took pictures all day. It's a little easier to get coffee on the Avenue of the Giants, and our first coffee stop was at the Eternal Tree House Cafe & Gift Shop. The Tree House was hollowed out of the base of a living redwood and is a 20 foot room inside a 22500 year old tree. Pretty cool! The coffee at the cafe was good, the gift shop, not so much. From the vista point, there is a captivating view of all 3 Shastas---the dam, Shasta Lake (30,000 acres) and snow-capped Mount Shasta ...

... stunning which makes this part of the trip a pleasure. As we topped a hill in one part of the drive, a motorist was in the middle of the highway waiving a flare to get people to slow down from both directions. As we passed a stopped car in the roadway, we saw the reason, the car had hit a mature doe. The deer had died, but all of the people in the car that struck the deer were OK - and it didn't look like too much damage ...

We realize just how spoiled Lyndsey is becoming as she proceeds to complain that she wanted ocean view. What?? There isn't a menu to choose from? No, we tell her it is like it was in cookhouse days...you come in ...
