... 34 minutes to the real place. Well worth it is our opinion. When you drive up Route 66 to Pops, it looks as though a space ship landed with a giant, and I mean giant, sculpture of a pop bottle with a straw. As you walk up to the restaurant/gas station/convenience store, you see thousands of pop bottles of every color and flavor you can imagine (and you can't imagine up some you will find in there). Food Network Diner

... been featured on Food Network (one of my fave TV channels) so that made it even more special. It was a quinessential old style diner and, as we have noticed every where in the South, the people were so friendly and enjoyed chatting with us. They always want to know where "ya'all" are from and headed :) It was another perfect Historic Route 66 moment!

We enjoyed the rolling hills of Oklahoma noticed it had the beautiful red soil like Georgia and Kaua'i.

Back in Oklahoma for a night while we waited for more storms to come along. We checked out Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge, it was really beautiful but they were in terrible drought so many of the migratory birds didn't come in this year. ... is in the army. Gary wasn't very friendly. Dwayne and his wife were there. He is getting ready for knee replacement and has been doing triathlons. His daughter and grandson was there. Diane and Robby were their along with their son, his wife and two kids. The son had thanksgiving with us in Ca when he was going to Bible college. He remembered us grilling our turkey outside. ... We play the 'who sang this' game, and she always beats me. She's so cool.

We've also decided that if we're going to be driving a big truck through Oklahoma, I'm going to need to get a cowboy hat. Nothing too heavy duty, just a nice formal driving hat so that I can tip it to people as they drive by. I don't want people to think I don't belong!
