We left Arata early due to warnings about construction delays on route 299. We had to be in Chico before 4 for the brewery tour at Sierra Nevada.
The route we took (299) was a great road for the bike, but the construction delays were a bit of a downer. I liked several of the small towns we rode through, especially Weaverville.
We made it to Chico by 1:30 and checked into the hotel to get ready for the tour.
... the next day, and we change to get ready for the softball game at 8pm. Apparently it’s really relaxed and they all drink out of their “red cups” whilst they play. Playing softball and drinking sounds like a disaster to me, but we decided to get involved. So we stopped at the liquor store on the way to the game and get some of our favourite “Lime-a-rita’s”.
We get to the game, and I see some people ...
... weak, and tired. Not a good situation considering the trail cumulatively climbed 6000 feet in the next 20 miles. I dragged for 10 miles, having climbed 3700 feet by then. Finally I stopped at 12pm, ate lunch and took an hour nap. That nap totally revitalized me. I got my power back and got the kick back in my stride. The rest of the climb ...
... Fortunately I am not staying there. I have a package to pick up at the Brattens (trail angel) where i will also spend the night. Arriving there by 2:30pm, I had plenty of time to do laundry and eat at the Caribou Cafe close by. Ultimately, about 10 the hikers arrived here (Chowda, Cat Lady, He-man, Spontaneous, Wallaby, Mermaid, Burning Star, etc. Tomorrow I head out early. ... time in the camper than we like to. But it turned out it was much bigger than I expected and had a whole lot going on. We stayed at the Almond Tree RV Park. It didn’t have a playground, but did have a small pool and the biggest bonus, it was right there in town so we didn’t have to drive far to go places. Thankfully Dean felt better right away so we were able to go out and do some stuff. Our first night out we found a playground in town for Iris to play ...
