... for a very long time otherwise. Thank you, whoever you are. We stop at the door of the hotel and I get out to get us registered. When I get back I suggest that we go to supper first that way once we are in, we will be in for the night. We find a Perkins ( a treat for us because there are none in Edmonton) and enjoy a nice supper then return to the hotel. It is the end of another day on the road, and tomorrow will be the end of another enjoyable ...

In Alberta now on The Cowboy Trail and dotted all over the countryside (which looks like it could be in Australia) on private properties are these oil pumps they have nicknamed Donkeys. The oil companies pay the property owners to have them on their land.

One thing you soon note is that it evidently got very cold (and, of course, still does!) out on the praries - fireplaces or cast iron (heating) stoves in most rooms, or with the flues running through adjacent rooms to spread the heat.

Sore and tired from the hours of trekking the day before, Day 8 got off to a bit of a slow start. After packing up the campsite, we started off to complete the only trail that we had missed. This trail looped through the badlands, and offered a great view of the morning's sunrise and had handy informative signs detailing the surrounding landscape.
