After a great week, it was time to pack up and leave. We put everything in the car and packed up the tent, knowing we would be staying in the covered wagon again tonight at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead. (Best. Idea. Ever).The drive was uneventful - it rained a lot, but not as heavily on the drive over. We reached the homestead, and unpacked our stuff again into the wagon.
Finally, we reached De Smet, turned off the paved road (literally), and reached the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead. It's a huge farm out in the middle of the prairie, and they have it set up just like the Little House on the Prairie. You can tour the farm, go to a class in the one room schoolhouse, and... no lie... you can sleep in a covered wagon. How cool is that? I had a terrible sleep last night in the hotel. The air conditioner in the room sounds like a jet engine with a hamster wheel thrown in to add the squeaking sounds. We weren't able to get the window open but decided to leave the AC off anyways. It got pretty hot and muggy in the room and then the dog started pacing around to go outside at about 5 am.
