We finally had a rest day – sort of. I did the washing and cleaned the van and Linton did a few repairs. Read and went for a swim in the pool. We really enjoyed this day and I think we needed it.
I have had an issue with one of my cameras. Need to find some photos of Charleston. Next blog, I hope.
... Also, all but one trail was flooded and even sections of the boardwalk path were under water, from recent floods. We walked as far as we could, looking at old growth hardwood forest and squirrels.
Then set off and arrived at Santee State Park. John spotted turkey vultures nearby. Beautiful wooded campground next to Lake Marion, largest lake in South Carolina, built by damming the Santee River in the 1940s. Warm weather at last. So good to be able to live outdoors ...
... try and clean off driveways and sidewalks. We got off the road in NC for lunch at Cracker Barrel, gas and a trip to Walmart for more windshield washer. It was around 25 at this point and we are so glad we wore boots, ski jackets and scarves...it was slippery and cold. Jerry drove the whole way and the sights through North Carolina were amazing...the storm was an ice storm there and the ice was relentless...on power ...

We made it to our first hotel...Days Inn in Orangeburg, SC. It was a nice place and the price was right. We pulled into the hotel lot and saw several vehicles from Ohio. We were pooped...I don't think I have gone to sleep before 10:00 in a long time!

I couldn't cheat and drive close to the left side of my lane because the traffic was so heavy and I couldn't cheat on the right side because there were potholes just to the right of the white line. Potholes that were 2-3 feet long and 6 inches deep.
