    ... crossed the Mississippi". It was so quiet there. All I could hear was the water rushing over rocks. (And the occasional gun shot. Forgot to mention that the visitor center gave me an orange vest to wear because the
    entire park is open for hunting.)

    ... of place than driving CC on a state highway during a snow storm in Minnesota. I was getting tons of looks from the locals. As soon as I saw and crossed the Mississippi River for the first time that I got excited again and couldn't wait to make my destination.     ... the $5 day pass to the park. At least it also was used for Lake Itasca park. Lake Lasalle State Recreation area campground was ok. A reclaimed forest which is trying to come back it is sleepy and also a bit depressing. On the good side it has full hookups and was quiet. After setting up camp we drive over to Lake Itasca to find the headwaters. We spent some time reading about the formation of the area, and the Mississippi ...

    Day 64 (June 19) -- 7:14 am in Chetek, Wisconsin and the rain is just pelting down and the thunder sounds right overhead. We awoke to a very light rolling thunder and a few raindrops but the rising tone of the thunder and less time in between rolls warned us the storm was fast approaching ... subtle sheets of lightning and it's quite the storm we have over us right now.
