... Dexter cafe. The lady owner appraised us, and when asked for directions to the restroom said "... and don't pee in the sink." An inauspicious introduction you will agree, but lunch was good, and as we swapped yarns she told us how her husband had died of cancer in May, and how running the cafe had kept her going through the grieving process. Her account painted a picture of small town America suffering from the farming crisis, and ...
At the airport, I took a couple of minutes to take Cameron for a brief Young Eagles ride. He had commented that he always liked doing stalls in the Stinson that their family had, so I planned to show him the analogous maneuver in the Long-EZ. ... I've heard of another Nebraska Republican who has served in politics for as long as Marv has. He has now put in SIXTY years as a GOP volunteer. Isn't that incredible? He started off with the late Sen. Carl Curtis in 1954 and has served a number of Republican leaders since then. Isn't it great to know about someone who has stayed that active and engaged into his 90s?
Hats off to you, Marv, and know that I deeply appreciate your support and friendship!
... makes you feel good.
It was very nice of Marv to team up with Gail and Mike Dwyer and Patty and Scott Meister to host a campaign event for me at the Fremont Golf Club. We surprised Marv with a big birthday cake, which he loved. We later learned that he shared the extra pieces with local people who are caregivers for those with Alzheimer's Disease. That made us even more proud of him, always thinking of others!
... Had an excellent interview with the Fremont Tribune and another one with KHUB.
Last, but not least, we stopped by Hy-Vee for coffee with my good friend Marv Welsteadt and a group who had many good questions about the many important issues facing our country.
It was a great day!
