... at least a decade ahead of the locals at all times. The day started poorly as we headed to Walmart to buy picnic provisions for the day. With a huge sign stating that it was a 24/7 store we attempted to enter at 11am.....or was it 12pm? Who knows? Anyway we were greeted at the sliding door by a 400 pound sales clerk sitting like Humpty Dumpty on his wall, who cheerily advised us that state law prohibited the store opening until midday.  After ...

Drove 500 miles in 9.5 hours including a brief stop at Medora visitors centre for information.

We set off early (by our standards!) at 8.30 am for the long drive to North Dakota. It was a very cold morning at around 45f/7c, very foggy and moist. The park is so big it took us over an hour of driving to reach the north east exit, we saw many animals having their breakfast in the fields but no close encounters.

... crossing the prairies of the Mid-West. I as the pilot guiding us across our beautiful countryl...including Amber waves of grain. I hated that song in elementary school music class. All eyes on me. Ugh.

We traveled from Fargo to Bismarck, the state capital, for lunch. About 3 hours. We buzzed by the capital building. They got jipped. The most boooring building. You could pass it and never know that is what it was. ...

... recently. Every now and then you can see a patch of snow or a frozen water puddle. The train is said to have about two hours delay and I was told it is because of the “fracking” that is going on in this area. North Dakota is busy with the oil; we can see oil refineries all over and the trains have to go slow here. What has been fascinating me are not only the randomly placed houses and farms but rather ...
