My first stop today was the Ohio Capitol in Columbus. It's a Greek Revival, symmetrical building with a central cylindrical tower. The cylindrical tower looks rather odd. Most of the original designs, and there were several, featured a dome on top of the cylinder but the finished building wound up without one.
Joan and I are making final preparations to leave on July 18. We look forward to a few days in the Swiss Alps before joining our family in Paris on the 23rd/24th. We left Highlands Wednesday morning in a rain storm and stayed in a rain storm most of the day. We found out later our hometown fireworks scheduled for the 4th of July were cancelled due to heavy rains. The southeast mountains have lived up to their rain forest reputation this year. To appreciate how small Gambier is, the town consist of one Inn (with the only restaurant), one coffee shop, one deli, one very small grocery store (that is not allowed to sell wine on Sunday but can sell beer), and a tavern. Made it 250 miles on one tank of gas, which isn't bad considering the bike and box in top of the car. In typical form, Ada has been awake for the whole trip, making conversation and demands.
