Today we drove from Pipestone, MN across South Dakota. Lots of prairie land and CORN! Along the way stopped at the Corn Museum in Mitchell, SD. We felt we needed to stop at the Corn Museum because we hadn't had enough off-beat stuff as the Spam Museum in MN was closed.
Badlands is absolutely spectacular. We viewed some of the sites, but tomorrow is yet another day. Will be taking the Badlands Loop Road, and also do some hiking. Unbelievable.
... farm but expect to see many more as we travel west towards the Badlands.
Had rain last night for the first time on our trip. Awoke to heavy winds shaking the van as rain pelted the windows. Parted the curtains just enough to make sure the Missouri River, which sat only a short distance from our campsite, wasn't overflowing its banks. No worries...all's well.
Traveled from Missouri Valley, Iowa today to the Pipestone National Monument. Wonderful national monument that features the pipestone layers of rock that Native Americans used for carving artifacts, particularly pipes. The rock is a deep red rock that is polished with bees wax.
Tomorrow on to the Badlands, with a stop at the Corn Palace - a funky palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.
... Paul was at 3:47 PM. It was a one hour flight. We had a 2.5 hours layover.
We left MSP at 7:15 PM and landed in WDC around 10:20 PM. We got home a little after 11 PM. The taxi line was incredible but we got a taxi pretty quick. We played with Roger until midnight.
Overall, we drove 2,825 miles from Fargo, ND into Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, and then to Wahpeton, ND. The trip was phenomenal. It was great seeing Joel's cousins from the Petrich side of the ...
... I had bratwurst, hot potato salad, and beans for lunch. Joel had a bbq sandwich with the same sides. Lunch was good. We stayed at Oktoberfest until 2 PM and then headed grandpa and grandma Petrich's gravesite.
We also rode on a carousel which was near Harold and Marlene's house. Photos below.
Dinner was Alan Petrich's fried fish. It was delicious. Marlene also got Alan his birthday cake.
