After enjoying a few days in Chicago (more detail to follow about our stay in Chicago) we are off to pick up our van and start the Route 66 part of our trip. We have seen the signposted start point but then also went on a bus tour and the guide pointed out a different start point - so who knows! Anyway, here we are and here we go! I love to travel. I'm sure, if you are reading this, that we have that in common. I am not rich by any means but I feel like life is short and I should experience adventures now instead of waiting a whole lifetime and trying to do everything when I am older and may not be able to enjoy it as much.

I am always glad when I force myself to find another book on Lincoln and spend the ...

... food stop opened in 1946, the Gemini Giant at Wilmington, two brilliantly restored gas stations and a maple sirup (correct sp!) shop which marked the halfway point in Illinois.

200 miles took nearly 6 hours due to regular photo ops and diversions. We arrived in the State Capital exhausted but elated. We had driven on the right in our automatic Chevy, negotiated Stop signs (everyone stops and then takes turns!) and were delighted to be on the road on our journey. What an excellent ...

... after a day of riding without roadworks or any trucks barrelling past us.

We found it hard at times to follow Route 66 as the signs are sparsely scattered and the road weaves between smalls off shoot roads and the interstate; at other times, disappearing completely as the interstate is over the top of some parts. The parts we rode were such a pleasure and there was always something to look at.

Dinner was at Mario's Pizza - way too much food served - such big ...
