We spent last night in Lincoln. It is halfway between our last stop outside St. Louis, and Chicago.
After we left Collinsville, we took a detour to Alton, a town on the Missip where there are locks for river boats. We spent about an hour watching a barge towing one barge 3 boats wide up the river a tad, then another came into the lock. Once the water level had risen, the gates opened and ...

Along the way I was able to take the 1940-1977 version of Route 66 through ...

... dogs at the RNA at home are way better! The restaurant did have lots of cool Route 66 memorabilia and a wall covered in number plates from the eight route states. We learned that the artist guy with the bus we saw earlier in Pontiac was the son of the cozy dog inventor. After this grease injection we headed for the Lincoln visitor centre and booked a Lincoln home guided visit. We had time to see the film at the ...

... The Edwards family occupied the house until Helen's death in 1909. Four years later, their daughter Alice Edwards Ferguson donated Edwards Place to the Springfield Art Association for use as gallery and classroom space.

We also visited the Lincoln Tomb. There were non-stop guests entering and leaving the tomb.
