... as a mecca for fiber-based crafts and had to see it for myself. I am now considerably poorer, but very happy. I learned a new knitters acronym yesterday, STABLE (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy). I haven't quite reached that stage, but WEBS put me a couple of yards closer.

... on the Mystic river. Here we visited the nation's leading maritime museum dedicated to the golden age of seafaring and fishing. Pics 14 - We arrived at our Hilton greeted at the front door by this Harvest Festival come Halloween display. Oh dear. Not as bad as the United Methodist Church we saw with big yellow pumpkins covering the front grass. Only in America. Despite Newport, we're having great fun. A beaut day altogether. Lovely sail in to Newport this am. This is a city I really want to come back to and stay for a few days. So much to see and do! We went for a walk along the famous "Cliff Walk" a public pathway right along the ocean that is open to all and goes right in front of all the famous mansions. We ended our walk with a tour of the Vanderbilt's home, the Breakers. Great audio tour so you could go at your own pace. Reminded me of Downton ...

... As a result we decided to stay at the Sheraton hotel. The drive there was thankfully uneventful. We were quite proud that we were able to find our way to the hotel through the busy NY streets. Once at the hotel we parked the car in a garage and left it there for the duration of our stay.
