... thru the Brighton area and then around to Sumner. Around the headlands they have only half roads as the rest of the road has huge containers one after the other to stop rock fall from the cliffs above splatting the road below - must have seen 50 of these containers, one after the other. So sad to see the devastation so very evident still. Headed towards Littleton the harbour but roads were blocked in a number of ways ...

Headed to Airport ready to begin our big adventure. Dropped off by Gerard in the "written off" Honda Civic with plenty of time to check-in, and add an extra bag! Thought this was going to be as easy as adding an extra bag on national ...

All I can say is that whilst walking around I felt so heavy hearted and incredibly emotional. Somehow it felt disrespectful to take photos of the ruined city, in particularly the memorial of 185 white chairs dedicated to those who lost there lives so I only took a couple of the renewed areas.

... of every shape and size threaten onlookers with their spikes. Outside, on our way towards the museum, we pocketed a few conkers. At half past three, we joined a guided tour around the museum. We struck gold, as the guide was fantastic at his job: both very knowledgeable and highly entertaining. We learned that, before humans arrived on these islands, New Zealand's three land-based mammal species were all bats (and all tiny). This lack of large predatory mammals allowed bird ...
