... through corn country. Almost all of the crop had been harvested with only a few remaining paddocks being harvested before the winter snows arrived. Our in-car navigation system had us turning off the Interstate and on our way to Starved Rock State Park which includes a rocky outcrop that overlooks the Illinois River. Sunday started early, especially for Lucy and James, who both (apparently) were awake at 5am, time difference still playing its tricks. Still, at least James had the foresight to take home the previous evening's dinner that he'd not finished (an American peculiarity that we still find odd), so according to Lucy he was eating Pizza at 5.15am ... Lovely dinner at Vapiano's and then back to the hotel at 10.30 pm, all shattered. Up early to head up north to Sharnes place and it has snowed overnight ,there is a light dusting on the roof tops and in the streets really pretty and once outside really cold ...-6 with a wind chill of about -12 and it was windy.A short walk to the subway to jump the red line and it is pretty quiet on the streets , it is 8 am on Sunday morning .had to ask for help from the ticket booth lady who looked like she was freezing but came out to the machines to assist ...
