As the Rocky Mountains approach, the turbulence has picked up and the seat belt signs have been illuminated. The interactive 3D map has indicated that Long Peak is to the north standing 4,437 metres high. If only it wasn't dark, we'd have a pretty good view of it. Just as quickly as it appeared the storm blew over and we all emerged on the other side of Chicago with our cars thoroughly washed and wind-whipped. ...

First leg: Albany to Chicago

Ah, another encounter with Boingo - apparently I didn't write my user name and password down anywhere so I can't log into the free wi-fi here at Ohare. This is annoying.

I have completed the first leg of my journey, landing in Chicago after crossing the frozen Lake Michigan. I had mentioned to Kara that I might be flying over the North Pole - i don't know if I am, but looking down before landing, i was ready to spot a polar bear or two. The lake ...
