... is less than the cost of hiring a GPS for the same period! Fortunately, the GPS on the phone is very efficient and we can navigate out of SF quite easily- this is possibly the only good part of it being a Labour Day Weekend, all the natives have abandoned the city- I think they may have all decided to drive the Big Sur with us!

The freeway is great and certainly a lot easier than our Spanish experiences since we can read all the signs here! There is a lot of driving ...

In the fading light we watched the surf beat the sand strewn verge of Highway 1 until in the dark we arrived at our final stop in Pacifica with 1183.9 miles covered in almost 33 hours of driving through this great state. Exhausted from our whistle stop tour we spent our last day with the Harris elders ...

... up to route one and it's not very busy and has a shoulder (not exactly a bike lane) to ride on but soon the hills start. Their not too steep just long and lots of them, started to get hot though so behind a bush to change into shorts & put on sunblock. Wonderful views all along making us stop a lot for photos, it's really weird when in places the mist rolls in off the ocean even needing the back lights on at one point. Then heaven, a long ...

... outside temperature was right at 90 degrees---not good for a fat boy to be hiking in such weather. Checked in at the visitor office and got our free pass since we have 'senior cards'---one more time being old ain't so bad. Those 'senior cards, we got when we turned 62 have more than paid for themselves in park admission passes over the last few years.

Temperatures kept rising as we gained elevation to a whopping 1,500 feet at the ...
