... is less than the cost of hiring a GPS for the same period! Fortunately, the GPS on the phone is very efficient and we can navigate out of SF quite easily- this is possibly the only good part of it being a Labour Day Weekend, all the natives have abandoned the city- I think they may have all decided to drive the Big Sur with us!

The freeway is great and certainly a lot easier than our Spanish experiences since we can read all the signs here! There is a lot of driving ...

After the bright lights of Vegas, Mum and I flew back to Los Angeles to pick up our hire car and start the 5 day leisurely drive up Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco. We had about 500 miles to cover over 4 nights/5 days, and at the start of the week had only booked our first night's accommodation to give us a bit more freedom for the rest of the week. Our first stop was Carpinteria, a small town outside of Santa Barbara. It was a 98 mile drive from LA which was a little ...

A worthy addition to the Nat. Park ...

Today marks the start of the official second half of the trek and we had dropped 4 people and were picking up 4 more and a new tour leader too. We met in the lobby of the hotel at 7:30 to go through all of the fine details and bits and pieces mainly for the new peoples convenience. Once all the paperwork was filled out and the legal talk over and done with we got into the van and headed to Hollywood to have a quick look around. Seeing as most of us had already ...

... sleep too much!) but then when I checked out in the morning and said I was going to Alcatraz for a few hours and if I could leave luggage they then had the audacity to charge even morrrrre money! And wouldn't let me use any facilities for the rest of the day. Not impressed but not much choice! Anyway... Went and collected my belongings from Gay Goliath, who seemed to have an later ego as his other job involved him in quite a fancy area in the financial District, then escaped ...
