... is less than the cost of hiring a GPS for the same period! Fortunately, the GPS on the phone is very efficient and we can navigate out of SF quite easily- this is possibly the only good part of it being a Labour Day Weekend, all the natives have abandoned the city- I think they may have all decided to drive the Big Sur with us!

The freeway is great and certainly a lot easier than our Spanish experiences since we can read all the signs here! There is a lot of driving ...

... been driving... Again after the shambles of the night before I was still waaaay over the limit and functioning on a bare minimum of sleep. Still, set off anyway and the aim was to go down highway 1 (one of the most scenic coastal drives in The whole of the US). I didn't realise but highway 1 has a really scenic part between San Francisco and San Jose. I accidentally missed that and instead was on highway 101, which still wasn't so bad as we wanted, and did end up going to see ...

Today we headed up the last leg of our Pacific Coast Highway Tour and our most anticipated leg - The Big Sur, which actually isn't a place and isn't pinpointed on the Highway, it's an area - stretch of the highway that was named The Big Sur by the Monterey Peninsular Spanish Settlers, who referred to the wilderness as 'el pais grande del sur' meaning 'the big country to the ...
