    ... that we don't want to leave in the car because of safety or heat exposure, we have become grateful for motels with parking right outside your first floor room!

    ... into Oklahoma (yes Route 66 only lasts for 13 miles through Kansas). The first place we stopped was to visit the Worlds Largest Totem Pole which was nice, in the summer we imagine it would be a great place for picnics.     I made my way back to Route 66 from Grove rejoining just east of Afton which is a rather rundown town with few businesses left open. Rundown and abandoned was a bit of a theme for the morning as I drove through a number of towns that have suffered at the hands of the interstate bypass.     Left home about 5:45. Flight from OKC at 9:15. Arrived O'Hare 11:15. The international terminal is a totally different building so we had to go out of security, ride a tram to the international terminal and go back through security so that took awhile.
