We decided last night that we would do sunrise today and set the alarm at 3:30am, and that's when we got up. Made it to the top of Steptoe Butte a few minutes past 4 and we were the first car there. We had to turn the car's high beam on to climb up the narrow winding road up to the top. Saw a fawn who ran away when she/he saw the car. The birds …

We did not do sunrise today and made up a little sleep. I got up around 7 and Bob got up shortly after. We left the motel room around 8:30. The first place I wanted to go was the canola fields on Rt 26 about 15 miles west of Colfax. We went there yesterday but I did not get any good shots and I wanted to try again.

      After that, we decided …

I got up before 7am local time (after waking up a couple of times), and Bob got up shortly after I did. The rain had stopped and changed to drizzle - hopefully this was the last wet day of this trip, if the weather forecast could be trusted!

After having breakfast in the hotel, we got on the road towards the Palouse region. We took 195 S …

... scheme, and was sorry I didn't get a picture of it. Coming in, we had a great view of some of the monuments, boats on the Potomac and people enjoying the July 4 festivities on this gorgeous day. Can't beat the patriotic bonus of going through both Philly and DC on Independence Day! We zipped into the United Lounge for quick snacks and recharge, but they closed at 5 pm.
By this time, even with a little sleep, our bodies were pretty confused. We were past ...

... Beautiful rolling fields abound along this winding road. From Garfield we got on Rt 27 N for a short distance then onto Farmington Rd to Farmington, then on Tekoa Framington Rd to Tekoa. Bob remembered that there were a couple of eating places in Tekoa and we found a cafe to have our breakfast/brunch. It was past 11am already when we got there. It was interesting to be in this small town Cafe where everyone seemed to know everyone else (except us of course). The chef lady and ...
