... a table with a group of eight folks who have driven to Pasadena from Anderson, SC. My mother lives about 30 minutes from Anderson - how weird! After breakfast we have a mile to walk back to our seats, but first a pit stop. The porta potties we stop at are locked. You need to show your seating ticket to the attendant to use one. It is huge (geographically), pretty dirty and totally full of hawkers and many, many beggars. It seems very wrong to me to be guided through Beverly Hills where you view the mansions of the rich and famous, then return to the streets of the poor and ignored. I find it very ...

How To Become an American

... I wanted to eat it and I liked how it tasted. But did I like how I felt? No. One day I was sat in my room trying to have a nap and I looked at my suitcase that was overflowing with clothes and things I'd bought, as well as the empty fast food containers and I had this fleeting thought, "am I turning into an American"?
