... traveling up the seven mile long 6% grade to 4310' Siskiyou Summit. No surprises here as we know this stretch of the road by heart.

What was surprising and one of the main reasons for purchasing our new truck was how much power the beast has. We literally flew up the steep grade at the posted speed limit of 55 mph in 4th gear. Our old truck could not come close maintaining that kind of velocity up that section of road. As australians that aren't too worried about what we eat, we have very few questions of waiters and don't really demand anything from them at all. Then we packed up and drove to the Visitor Centre, where we looked at amazing photos taken of the eruptions of Lassen Peak in 1915. They were taken by a photographer called Ben ...

Thursday, July 9, 2015. PCT day 81. Miles 1251.4-1273.8. My wake up call at daybreak was the song of the Canyon Wren. How I love that bird and it's song. It reminds me so much of my favorite place in the world (the Colorado Plateau). It was sad to leave the Middle Fork of the Feather River this morning. This is the kinda place you wanna spend all day in to swim and chillax. The climb out of the canyon ...

... necessary part of my hike now, luckily towns recently have been small and very   Hiker friendly with free camping in town. in Sierra city and Chester we have camped in the back of the local churches.  The next few days are to be a challenge. The heat wave is hitting and everyday is over 90 degrees. On top of that I M finding my self in an arid area. Ahead of me I will have a 30 stretch with no water and not much shade as I push through the hat creek rim and closer to ...
