Fly & Recover
We left home at 3.30am after a 4hr nap all excited and ready to go. The flight from Perth To Sydney gained time and we arrived 1/2hr early which gave us hope that the long flight might too, it didn't. I had never seen the A380 up close before, they are enormous with two levels of seating. The plane was full with only 3 empty seats. The journey was …

We're nearly three weeks into our trip and as much as I miss home, I now know that I could live in the States - now that I've discovered California and more specifically, Santa Monica. Being a big fan of American punk, most of my favourite bands come from this neck of the woods and our driving mixtape reflects this. I've always …
Kicks on Route 66

The day started with possibly the biggest breakfast I have ever seen. Americans don't do anything by halves, but in Vegas everything is even bigger. Ironically, we ate in the hotel's "Sherwood Forest Cafe".
This wasn't like it's namesake in Nottingham, even if the staff were wearing Lincoln green. Presumably they were …

Santa Monica Pier has some interesting attractions, a trapeze school and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Store, among them. It was a crisp sunny morning when we walked along Muscle Beach and the Pier. The amusement park section was not open until later in the day and evening, so we couldn't ride the Ferris wheel to overlook the long …

Very clean, tidy and a comfortable bed, as was the bathroom with good water pressure in the shower. We were next door to the main office and it was very noisy with people checking in late, one at 1.30am. It was also very light with the outside light shining all night and the curtains very thin, an eye mask solved this problem for me. The staff were very helpful and even allowed us to check-in at 11am rather than 1pm. I thought it strange that the room had a fridge and a kitchen sink but no glasses to have a drink of water with. I would stay here again.

The rooms are recently remodelled and are nice. Our room had a seperate kitchen (not remodelled) which was quite nice. The location is a little 'in between'. On the one side is Main Street Santa Monica (about 10 min walk) and on the other 3rd Street Promenade (also 10 mins). This is both good and bad, I guess. Quiter, but apart from the very popular Cora's Coffee across the street, there is not much else.
