    Building up the miles

A travel blog entry by jwatson on Mar 25, 2015

It's amazing how much a difference music makes while hiking. The first day, I didn't listen to anything because I was going to do at least one day of "pure" hiking. The second day was rainy and so short that I didn't bother, and I couldn't find my ear buds on the third. After I found them on my hammock, I turned on some music before a big climb on the fourth day, and wow. It was crazy how much more energy and stamina it seemed that I ...

I made it to the shelter about 8 miles down the trail, but there was still so much daylight left I decided to go a couple more miles before setting up camp. ... Today I woke up and my legs were screaming at me. I was so sore I could barely get out of my tent. After two Advil and a pep talk I was back on the trail. I had only walked a mile when I received my first Trail Magic! A guy named Fresh Grounds set up a tarp and was cooking everyone breakfast. I ate my body weight in pancakes and one lets then drank some coffee to top it all off. It pretty much lightly rained all day long. We hiked about 10 miles and are staying ...

... here : willontheAT.tumblr.com Due to the fact that we are probably going to get a little bit of freezing rain tonight we are probably going to hike the approach trail to Springer Mountain tomorrow morning. The forest road to Springer is just a little too sketchy. It's a weird feeling planning half a year for something and it finally being here. I'm a little anxious, but mostly I'm excited to start this ...
