... people fishing off the wharf. We walked to the end of the wharf, searching for sea lions which we could hear barking but only saw a couple swimming under the wharf. We will have to do more hunting tomorrow. From there we drove to Cannery Row, a commercial area with upscale restaurants, hotels, and shops. We browsed through some shops, then found a restaurant with a good menu, and went in for dinner. We were pleased with our choice. We look forward to Day 2 in ...

      Mission: Road trip

Today began our road trip up highway 1 (and a few other roads). Last night we arrived at Eileen and Johns late. We stayed up chatting with them and Jordan until probably too late. But we were three hours behind, so for us it was like going to bed at 11:00pm. Not bad for vacation! This morning we arose and greeted the Pacific Ocean from another angle. Uncle John brought us downtown for a stroll through laguna. One of ...

Walked on the beach this am. Really wide hard sand for cars and RVs to drive on and to park. Lots of festive attire on dogs and people, even Santa hats on the boogie boarders! Pattcakes called with an uninvite for Christmas dinner! Evidently Lanita got ***** and suggested they just have dinner with their friends since we were coming. Not too inclusive. Anyway we have no plan B except to eat the shrimp platter we had planned to take for hors d' ouerves. Every place is ...

... into the ocean here- 2000' of mountain to the right and 500' drop offs to the left. The road dives in and out of canyons and ravines with many "slow to 15 mph" hairpin turns. Our destination, Ragged Point, is located only a few miles from the flatlands. If one continues on this remote and beautiful mountainous path Big Sur and Monterrey can be reached in about 1.5 hours.

We finally reach our destination- Ragged Point. It has grown over ...

We left LA and headed north on California Highway 1. We decided we would drive as far as we wanted for the day and then find a place to camp on the beach. As we made our way up the California coast, driving through Malibu and Santa Monica we were both in awe of the beautiful scenery. The blue of the ocean was very similar to the water on the southern Florida coast and in the Gulf of Mexico - just magnificent. We had ocean on one side of the car and mountains on the other - ...
