last port

... chris said BOOOOOO!) and so we hopped aboard shore for the last time. boothsbay is a bit more touristy than the other cute towns we had been in, but we settled in for one last meal of burgers at the only place still open (it was about 8 or 9 pm). it was perfect.

chris and i woke up at 4:30 am for a pick up to Rockland Airport. we took a tiny plane to Logan Airport and then we were off to Vegas!

Day 29: Home Soil Produces Euphoria!

... and Peggy Maxwell and their 4 children on our 1972 camping trip. I had just discovered the wonderful delicacy, fresh lobster, a week earlier when we visited Margaret and Warren Smalzel and their family in Cohasset, Mass. Warren trapped some in the bay behind their home and Margaret prepared them for our dinner. That was a first for me! We had them every night that we were on the coast of Maine.

Ice Cream in short supply

... walked around the town. apparently there are two ice cream shops in town. both had lines out the door. we stood in a line for awhile but it was just too ridiculous to be in the line for long. how sad that the ice cream is so hard to get here!

We left Eastport today. The sun is still shinning, so down the coast we go, stopping at Acadia National Park. We took the 27 mile park loop. Lots of people and cars. Attractive sights, but we have seen other places in Maine equally if not more spectacular which are uncrowded. The drive up Cadilac Mountian was worth it. It is only 1500 feet up but the views are spectaclur ...

Rest please here in Maine

... Great idea and really convenient for the likes of us  so we couldn't resist.  There are a number of permanent RVs in the park and I guess they will all arrive at the end of June.  Right now it is very quiet.  There is a nice heated pool and rec room and small restaurant serving breakfast through to dinner (pizza and hamburgers)

Back to the Lobster it was very yummy but my picture of Brent holding it was not very steady.  Since he is not ...

Hotel

Cont'd Another long bus ride took us to dinner in Maine. The restaurant was called Buck's Naked Barbecue. Mr. Nish thought everyone needs to undress before going into the restaurant. They had Pool tables, foosball, and a jukebox. The girls were playing the jukebox a lot. Mr. Nish played a few songs that no one liked. Fortunately the hotel was 5 minutes away. But now we have a study session. Peace out! Krislyn and Courtney

Day 14-15 touring Boothbay Harbor Area

Day 14-15 Eating lots of seafood and blueberry pie. YUM! Shopping for pottery and local art in Boothbay Harbor. Driving out Hwy 27 and 238 and off the beaten path, we find Newagen, a lovely cove with all the beauty and character of Maine.

Maine Summer-First stop in the Northeast

It's always good to see an architect when your life needs a redesign, so off we go to Maine and our friend Ken Chipman and his dearest Jennifer. He's been dropping in on us in Hawaii for years so we are returning the favor. Beautiful food, hikes and people. We even managed to surprise Ellen and Glen Hibbard and were treated to delicious lasagna! Mahalo!

THE RAIN IN MAINE IS REALLY A PAIN

... of the terminal and right in front of us was the shuttle for Avis. We got to Avis and after having to wait for about a half hour got our little blue car that will be our part-time home for the next two weeks. It is a Nissan Versa and it is ok. Not especially roomy but then its not a gas hog either.  We got the laptop plugged in and the GPS set up and........nothing. We couldn't get it to work. This is a bad thing in Boston. I had turn-by-turn printout directions ...

... bag for Elizabeth Richer. It was cute, and on sale, but I resisted. I then fought off shopper hysteria at the Patagonia store, where everything was half off. I just tried to get out of the way. Went to a few other stores, as well, and then settled down to eat. We went to a homey place, and had a lobster roll and blueberry pie. The pie was actually amazing, because it wasn't all sugary gelatinous like store bought fruit pies. After dinner we set out on our way to ...
